Firefox 3 cares a lot about your system’s security, so much so that it uses the installed antivirus software to scan the fully downloaded files. Now while this is very thoughtful of them, this can be a source of much trouble. Additional scanning can be very resource consuming and result in delayed processing, freezes and other issues.
However every decent Antivirus software usually offers a real time protection for all downloads and thus this ‘repeat’ scanning is not of much use, rather it is a pretty redundant activity. So if you have a trustworthy antivirus software and it offers secure real time protection, then you can disable the download scanning in Firefox 3.
Steps for disabling Virus Scanning in Firefox 3:
1. Type about:config in the address bar of Firefox and hit enter.

This is the warning that you get when you do so.(These people do have a funny bone)
2. In the list that follows, navigate to ‘browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone’ and toggle the value from True to False.

Note:
- We suggest that you do as promised and do not mess around with the other settings if you are unaware of what they do.
- Though this sounds simple, disable this protection only when you are pretty sure of your Antivirus’s real time protection abilities.
