The Internet Protocol (IP) Address is a series of numbers which pinpoint the location of a computer or a server on the internet. Every computer connected to the internet has a unique IP address, which consists of four sections from 0 to 255. Here is how you can find out the IP address of your computer.
For Windows XP/Vista users:
- Click on Start -> Run.
- Key in ‘CMD’ and press the Enter key.
- In the command prompt, type ‘ipconfig‘ and press the Enter key.
- You will now see your IP address and other relevant configurations in the command prompt.
For Mac users:
- Click on the Apple Menu icon and scroll to Control Panels
- Select TCP/IP Control Panel to check your IP address.
If you are using OS X,
- Open System Preferences
- Select Network under the Internet & Network.
- You will be able to see your IP address on the screen now.
Finding out your IP address online:
Finding your IP address online is easy. Go to WhatIsMyIP using your favorite browser and your IP address will be shown on your browser screen. There are many such sites which provide the same service.
