What is Second Life?

Second life is a three dimensional virtual world created by Linden labs in 2003, which can be accessed using the internet. Members can register and participate using the Second Life Viewer program assuming a virtual identity or avatar. The Second Life virtual world is made of such Residents who can interact with (via IM and built-in chat) and meet other residents.  Residents can take part in several activities, create and trade virtual real estate and services with one another, or explore the world(referred to as the grid which is a whopping 65000 acres now).

Second life is meant for users above eighteen years while users from thirteen to eighteen can participate in Teen Second Life. Second Life has become a very popular alternative virtual existence for people who join clubs, play game and live a complete virtual life on Second Life. Second Life also witnesses trade worth thousands of dollars(US dollars and not the Linder dollar virtual currency of Second Life) in exchange of virtual objects and virtual real estate.

Second Life can be used for entertainment, gaming, business and educational purposes however what shape it takes in the future depends on the creativity of its residents and its creators.
