What is a Wiki?

Ever wondered what the ‘Wiki’ in Wikipedia stands for? Don’t fret – We’ll tell you!

Wiki is a Hawaiian term for ‘Quick’ or ‘Fast’. A Wiki is a page or a collection of pages which allows anyone, who accesses it, to contribute or modify it easily. It thus provides users with quick support to create and edit web pages and create hyperlinks and internal links in a web browser.

A Wiki uses a simple markup language to enable instant creation and collaboration. Wikis are used in creating collaborative projects, one of the most famous of them being Wikipedia – the collaborative encyclopedia. They are also used to create knowledge management systems and collaborative projects on the intranet.
