How to Enable or Disable JavaScript in your browser?

Welcome back!

JavaScript, once the buzz on the internet, was one of the leading technologies which made the web interactive. JavaScripts let designers add load of functionality and appeal to their websites making it more and more interactive.

But often JavaScript is used to do things we hate – like adding annoying pop-ups to a website. So you might want to disable or enable JavaScripts in order to enrich your web experience. Here is the way to enable JavaScript in popular browsers:

Simple steps to enable/disable JavaScripts in browsers:

  • In the Options menu, click on the Content Tab
  • You’ll see the checkbox to Enable JavaScript. Click and select OK to apply settings.
  • You can also click on the Advanced button for Advanced JavaScript Settings

  • Below it you’ll find the Custom Level Button. Click on it
  • In the Security Settings Menu that opens, scroll down to Scripting heading
  • Tools menu and select Options
  • Select Enable or Disable in Active Scripting to turn JavaScripts on or off. If you select prompt, the browser will ask you everytime a website tries to run a JavaScript

  • Click OK and then OK again to finish the setting

  • You also get JavaScript options here
  • In the end, click OK to apply

5. Google Chrome:

Now comes the tricky part. Google Chrome doesn’t have any direct method to disable JavaScripts but we did find a way out on Google Chrome’s Help Forums. Here is how to do it:

  • This will require you to modify your shortcut to chrome
  • Right click the shortcut icon to Chrome and select Properties
  • In the Target: box, scroll all the way over to the right and add -disable-javascript
  • For example: C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe” -disable-javascript
